Psychoanalysis - Problems Without Simple Solutions
When Change is Hard
Sometimes people come to therapy because something keeps going wrong. Other times, nothing is obviously wrong, but they feel empty, dissatisfied, or uncertain about the life they want to live. Still others come because something has happened that has turned their life upside down, and they don't yet know how to move forward.
Common examples include:
I know this relationship is terrible for me. Why can't I leave?
I know I shouldn’;t react this way. Why do I keep doing it?
I know what would be good for me. Why can't I make myself do it?
My life looks good on paper. Why doesn't it feel like enough?
Problems like these often can't be solved by advice, insight, or willpower alone. Our work is to understand what keeps you stuck, including the parts of you that may be pulling in different directions, and to make room for possibilities that have been difficult to see or imagine. The goal isn't to give you the right answer, but to help you become freer to find your own.
FAQ

No. Some people begin therapy with a very specific problem, while others simply know that certain things in their lives aren¿t going the way they want them to. You don't need to know exactly why you're coming in. Figuring that out together can itself be part of the work.

Knowing why you do something doesn't always lead to doing something different. Therapy gives us a chance to understand not only why a pattern exists, but what continues to keep it alive—and what it will take to change it.
