Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. You can stop therapy whenever you want. That said, sometimes the wish to stop comes up just as the work is getting closer to something important—and, naturally, becoming more difficult. If you find yourself wanting to stop, I encourage you to tell me so that we can explore that feeling. Talking about what's making you want to leave can sometimes become an important part of the therapy itself.
-
Once we begin ongoing therapy, your appointment times are reserved for you each week, and I ask patients to make every effort to protect them. Requests to reschedule require at least 24 hours' notice and are subject to my availability. Canceled or missed sessions are charged in full, with the exception of vacation time arranged according to the terms we agree upon when treatment begins.

Approach & Sessions
-
It is a form of talk therapy focused on uncovering the unconscious patterns behind your thoughts, feelings, and relationships, so you can understand and shift them, not just manage symptoms.
-
They are both on a spectrum and aim at the same depth of change, and primarily differ in intensity and frequency of meetings.
-
I recommend meeting as frequently as possible, at minimum once per week. The more time we have to talk, the more you'll get out of the process.
-
This varies from person to person and depends on what brings you to therapy. Because psychoanalytic work aims at lasting change rather than quick symptom relief, meaningful shifts often take time, and pacing is something we can discuss together as we go.
